I LOVE these guys. When I go to NY, I always stop and listen wherever they are playing or drumming up a beat. The real talent is on the street and under the subway. I would love a CD of some of their beats/music.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea this bucket drumming was such a big deal. I would love to see a good b-drummer. None out here in Far Western Suburbia, I'm afraid. None in our neighboring big city, either.
ReplyDeleteAny video anywhere?

I would like to see videos of these bucket drummers. I play music too but mostly guitars and bass but I had played for a while in college with a group that use buckets and other things as percussion instrument. It amazes the crowd to see people playing good music with just "buckets" and plastic containers. But with that group we used our bare hands to drum, not with sticks. Very good feeling especially if there are five or more of you playing the buckets and then you build a rhythm and you just improvise and sort of just "feel" who would do the soloing and how long he would do it before he passes it to the next guy to solo.
ReplyDelete@Marjie I saw the movie Across the Universe and it's one of my favorites. Yes they have it in the Hey Jude song in that movie.
hey i love the pictures u post
ReplyDeleteso well chosen
they look full of passion and brimming with energy!
When I was 5 months pregnant with my first child my husband met me in Chicago while I was at a trade show. One afternoon we went for a walk down Michigan Ave. and came upon a band of bucket drummers on the steps of the Museum of Art. They put on quite a performance. They got run off by the cops, which was sad, but it was very enjoyable to watch and listen to.

I am looking for bucket drummers in arizona to play at an event...can anyone help?
ReplyDeleteYo' This is FunkPlastic, with all due respect to my counterparts...I know that I should rank in the top 10. I give it up to all the tricks and gimmicks, but I'm writing compositions. Intricate beats and melodies that is nothing short of Funkplastic. Give it some thought or perhaps have a nationwide bucket drum off and donate the proceeds (after a little pocket change for the drummers) to a worthy cause. Til then....Funkschwe' (funkplastic@gmail.com)
ReplyDeleteI saw a YouTube video of a dude playing buckets in Boston and he was getting a huge bass sound out of one. It appeared to be suspended somehow but I couldn't figure out how because of the the camera angle. Any ideas how he did it?
ReplyDeleteHe takes a refrigerator rack and puts the handle of the bucket in the middle of it and then pushes the bucket forward so that it is semi-suspended in the air, and then he places the small metal pans in front of the bucket to hold it in place. When he's playing he places his foot in the metal pan to keep the bucket raised. It's fascinating to watch and I AM JERMAINE CARTER'S BIGGEST FAN!!! (He's Boston's #1 bucket drummer!!!)
DeleteWhat about Funk Plastic from Portland OR?
ReplyDeleteYOU LEFT OUT DAVID BEADROU BOSTON!! DAVEY BEATS
